Got old electronics you’d like to get rid of? Try Gazelle.

My wife and I have recently been trying to rid our home of anything we don’t use on a day-to-day basis.  Along the way we’ve come across old cell phones, an old PDA, and even an ancient digital camera (it’s like, three years old).  These gadgets are usually great eBay fodder, but I have to be honest: I don’t often have the time and energy to list the item, figure out packaging, and head out to the post office to ship it.  Enter Gazelle.

Gazelle is trying to keep old electronics out of the landfill (a noble effort), and they are offering cash for your old stuff.  We had a couple of items to send, and it was enough that Gazelle is actually sending us a box and with it a prepaid shipping label. $70 for about 10 minutes on their site. In their words:

“Too often when people think of recycling, they rush straight to smashing things into bits for parts. We believe that reuse should always come first. If your GPS unit still works, why not keep it in circulation AND get paid for it? If reusing isn’t in the cards, then let us recycle that vintage camcorder. We think of it as ReCommerce.”

Will you generally make as much as you might selling the item on eBay?  Probably not, but the time you saved in not putting the item up for sale elsewhere might just be worth it.
